City of London leaders welcome Crossrail milestone

The City of London today welcomed the news that Crossrail has received Royal Assent. Stuart Fraser, the City of London’s Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee, said:

“Financial services in the UK – and billions of pounds in taxes – depend on London having an integrated transport system linking the capital to the rest of the country and the world. We have always backed Crossrail, even in the 1990s when no-one else did, and now we want to see it, delivered, as part of a chain of infrastructure that includes an efficient Tube and ail networks and airports (especially Heathrow) that are fit for the 21st century. Crossrail is vital but delivering it should not become an excuse for cut-backs in other areas.”

Sir Michael Snyder was Chairman of the Policy and Resources committee from 2003 to 2008 and was one of the leading voices in the campaign for Crossrail. Today he welcomed the news, saying:

“I'm delighted that Crossrail finally has Royal Assent. London simply cannot afford any more delays in getting it up and running. A world-class City needs world-class infrastructure, which Crossrail will provide."
