The purpose of the Functional Skills Mathematics Level one qualification is to demonstrate both mathematical skills at the appropriate level and the ability to apply mathematical thinking effectively to solve problems successfully in the workplace and in other real-life situations.

The Functional Skills English qualification at entry levels 1-3, will demonstrate the learner's ability to read, write, speak, listen, and communicate in English at an appropriate level, and to apply the knowledge and skills to real-life situations.

Functional Skills English qualifications at level 1 enables students to be able to speak, listen, communicate, read and write clearly, accurately, confidently and with effectiveness. They should be able to: read, write and speak and listen to communicate with confidence.

Functional Skills English qualifications at level 2 enables students to be able to speak, listen, communicate, read and write clearly, accurately, confidently and with effectiveness in respect of more complex, formal as well as less formal communication.

The English GCSE course offers a comprehensive and engaging exploration of English language and literature, designed to prepare students for the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations. Through a blend of literary analysis, language study, and creative writing exercises, this course aims to develop students’ proficiency in English communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

The Functional Skills Maths covers entry levels 1-3. These qualifications are suitable for all ages and cover content areas such as:

  • using numbers and the number system;
  • using common measures, shapes, and space;
  • handling data and information.
  • Learners will need to demonstrate mathematical knowledge and skills and apply this to solve mathematical problems.

Learners at Level 2 are expected to be able to use numbers of any size; read, write and make use of positive and negative integers of any size; use, order and compare integers, fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios as well as recognise the value of a digit in any whole or decimal number. They can use numerical and spatial patterns for a purpose and calculate with, and convert between, numbers written as fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios.

The Maths GCSE course is a comprehensive and dynamic program designed to equip students with essential mathematical skills, knowledge, and problem-solving abilities necessary for success in the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations. Through engaging lessons, interactive activities, and real-world applications, this course aims to build students’ confidence and proficiency in mathematics, developing a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and their practical applications.

To be eligible for funding on our free courses you should be a UK national or an EEA national with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and have been resident in the UK/EEA for the past three years. Proof may be required, more information about this is on the enrolment form.
