The UK Parliamentary general election will take place on Thursday 4 July 2024.
Who can vote
To vote in the general election you must:
- be registered to vote
- be 18 or over on polling day, 4 July
- be a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen
- be resident at an address in the UK or living abroad and registered as an overseas voter
How to vote
- In person, at your polling station on Thursday 4 July – you must bring photo ID to vote.
- Apply for a postal vote before 5pm Wednesday 19 June 2024
- Apply for a proxy vote, before 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024
Election timetable, key dates
- Thursday 30 May | Dissolution of Parliament
- Friday 31 May | Publication of Notice of Election
- Friday 7 June | Delivery of nomination papers from 10am on Monday 3 June, between 10am and 4pm, and up to 4pm
- Tuesday 18 June | Deadline for receiving applications to register to vote (if not already registered)
- Wednesday 19 June | Deadline to apply for a postal vote and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes, 5pm
- Wednesday 26 June | Deadline to apply for a proxy vote, not postal proxies or emergency proxies, 5pm
- Wednesday 26 June | Deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate, a free form of voter ID, 5pm
- Thursday 4 July | In person polling will take place from 7am to 10pm
