Black Sound London Heritage Collection Day 2
Black Sound London Heritage Collection Day 1
British black music has been all but excluded and, in some cases, airbrushed out of the UK's musical and cultural history. Black Sound, London's ambition is to redress this inequity by reconnecting British black music to the culture that created it, to formally preserve it before it's lost to time, and to celebrate it in its own right. Black Sound, London places British black music in its justified position within the country's musical mainstream.
Nationally this is an opportunity to join Black Sound in readdressing Britain's musical and cultural history to be more inclusive and, when told by the people that experienced and enjoyed it as well as those that created it.
To this end Black Sound, London will be holding two Heritage Collection days at the Barbican, inviting anybody who took part in the capital's black music experience to bring a relevant artefact to be scanned and added to a digital archive, along with a recording of the story that goes with it and why it remains special to your black music life.
Items to be scanned can include anything ‐ a flyer, a record, a pair of shoes you wore to go raving, a musical instrument…
There will be two Heritage Collection days at the Barbican Music Library: Saturday 14 June and Saturday 5 July at 11pm-3.45pm.
