Cemetery heritage tours

The City of London Cemetery and Crematorium is a 200 acre site full of natural beauty. With more than 3500 trees, 32 acres of landscaped memorial gardens, a woodland area, water features, ponds, and a nature area, the cemetery is home to a wide variety of birds, insects and animals.

After passing through the striking gated entrance the stunning landscaped and beautifully maintained cemetery unfolds before you. All our roadways and pathways are easily accessible and make for a very pleasant stroll through an oasis in the heart of East London.

The Cemetery also charts the changes in funerary culture from the splendour and iconography of Victorian monuments to the municipal lawn grave system, with all stops in-between. We were honoured to be the first Cemetery to be awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award in 2000. Being the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales, this is a true achievement and we have retained this award ever since.

There are many stunning features to our site, along with a number of notable persons buried here, and we will attempt to show you some of them during our heritage tours.

Tour last approximately two hours and are conducted on foot so please remember to bring your comfortable shoes.
