Hidden Histories of Keats House
Regency Dance Workshop
To accompany our exhibition 'Hidden Histories of Keats House', we are very excited to stage a workshop on one of Fanny Brawne's (a previous occupant) favourite pastimes - dancing!
Come and enjoy the dances known to the young men and women contemporary with John Keats. With the Prince Regent on the throne (1811 – 1820) the sociable and light-hearted country dances, cotillons, waltzes and quadrilles were found in grand ballrooms, family parties and country hops.
The afternoon will be led by Anne Daye, experienced teacher of historical dances, accompanied by Ian Cutts on the violin.
This workshop will take place in the Nightingale Room in the library building. No previous experience is necessary and no need to bring a partner. Please wear light shoes with flexible soles and comfortable clothes. There will be a short break with tea and biscuits provided.
This event will take place on 'Let's Dance' day - a nation-wide movement of dance organisations, charities, health professionals, community groups, celebrities getting together with one objective – to get more people dancing. Find out more at Let's Dance.
