To celebrate East and South East Asian Heritage Month, join Chinese musicians Cheng Yu (pipa - 4 stringed lute) and Li Ming (bamboo flutes) to experience Silk and Bamboo music - a popular genre of traditional Chinese music typically of southeast China near Shanghai and south of the Yangzi River. In the old times, strings were made of silk and flutes were made of bamboo, hence silk and bamboo refers to string and wind music.

We will introduce the history, characters and techniques of several kinds of instruments including the erhu fiddle and hulusi gourd flute. The musicians will bring easy Chinese folk songs that you will be able to learn and sing along to.

You can bring your own portable string and wind instruments such as guitar, violin, flute to join us in this workshop.

Families welcome.

If you have a disability you wish us to consider when attending this event, please inform the staff in advance.
