Some men in London
Join author Peter Parker for this talk at Shoe Lane Library on his books Some Men in London.
Drawing upon letters, diaries, novels, plays, films, newspaper articles, parliamentary debates, medical journals and court and police reports, the books uncover an almost forgotten piece of history and provides a picture of what life was really like for gay men from the end of the Second World War in 1945 to the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967. Although these men faced prosecution in the courts and vilification in parliament and the press, they showed extraordinary resilience and created a vibrant queer subculture in the capital, which was also reflected in the arts.
This event will take place in person at Shoe Lane Library and online via Zoom. For more information about the event and the author, please click on Book Tickets.
