Import of Products, Animals, Food and Feed System (IPAFFS)

Date updated: 17/05/2022

IPAFFS has replaced the EU system TRACES for the creation of notifications of imports to the UK, of products of animal origin and high risk products not of animal origin, originating from non-EU and third countries. This should be done one working day before arrival of the consignment and creates either a CHED-P or CHED-D.  The outcome of the checks are recorded by the Border Control Post staff (BCP) using IPAFFS and you can download a copy of the signed CHED-P or CHED-D.

You must complete Part 1 of the Common Health Entry Document (CHED) using IPAFFS, print and sign this and submitted to Port Health along with commercial documents and if applicable, the official certificates and test reports.

For technical issues using IPAFFS you should email the Apha Service Desk or phone 0330 041 6999.

The person responsible for the load must make sure that the checks have been recorded in IPAFFS for the CHED-P or CHED-D before removing it from the BCP.

If the check results are unsatisfactory, the consignment may be re-dispatched outside the EU, destroyed, or in exceptional circumstances transformed. All costs for destruction are to be met by the person responsible for the consignment.

Where a notice has been served requiring the consignment to be re-exported or destroyed, an appeal may be made within one month to the Magistrate Court and details are on the notice.

If you are importing processed wool, feathers, hides and skins or hunting trophies through the Tilbury, Thamesport or London Gateway Border Inspection Posts (BIP), please complete our Importer's Declaration and forward it to the BIP through which the consignment is being imported.

An invoice will be raised after the CHED has been issued. The current charges are on the charges page.
