Parking restrictions
The whole of the City of London is a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ)
In a CPZ all parking is controlled. Parking is controlled by hours and allowed only in designated parking bays. The kerbside is subject to yellow line restrictions.
The controlled hours are
- Monday to Friday 7am - 7pm
- Saturday 7am - 11am
At some locations different times apply. A wall or post mounted time plate will display the restricted hours for that specific location.
Parking is prohibited at all times on double yellow lines
Bank and public holidays
On bank holidays and public holidays some parking restrictions are different.
Restrictions not enforced
- Pay and display bays (except where the bay is suspended).
- Single yellow lines (except when the vehicle has been parked across a dropped footway, kerb or raised carriageway).
Restrictions enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Dropped kerbs and raised carriageways.
- Suspended parking bays.
- Other permit holder only bay (disabled bays, doctor bays, goods vehicle loading only bays, ambulance bays, hospital bays, etc).
- Double yellow lines.
- Footway parking.
- Moving traffic contraventions (banned turns, box junctions, bus lanes, etc).
Dropped kerbs and raised carriageways
A dropped kerb is where the footway has been lowered to meet the level of the carriageway and a raised carriageway is when the carriageway has been raised to meet the level of the footway and are easily identifiable.
There is no requirement for signage or markings on the carriageway to identify them.
Don't park next to a dropped kerb or on a raised carriageway even if marked with only a single yellow line or you may get a parking ticket.
