From Freedom Passes (for bus and other travel on public transport) for older people to City of London Red Badges for disabled drivers, there are a number of cheaper travel services available to people who live or work within the City of London, who need help to get out and about.

The Freedom Pass offers free travel for older and disabled people on almost all public transport in London.

How to apply

You can apply online on the London Councils website or collect an application form from one of our libraries and send by post to: Freedom Pass Application, POBox 572, Hull, HU9 9LP

This Freedom Pass allows disabled people to travel for free across London and on bus journeys nationally.

To be eligible for a Disabled Persons Freedom Pass, your main or only home must be in London and you must have any of the statutory disabilities as listed in the Transport Act 2000.

To apply for a Disabled Persons Freedom Pass, please contact the Adult Social Care Team on 020 7332 1224 or email the Adult Social Care Team.

Taxicard is a scheme that provides cheaper travel for people who have a disability that affects their physical movement and makes using public transport difficult.

Taxicard holders make journeys in licensed London taxis and private hire vehicles, and the allowance applies directly to each trip.

To apply for a Taxicard, you can download an application form directly from London Councils.

If you are disabled and can't use public transport, Dial-a-Ride is a free, door-to-door service that is great for getting out and about.

This is a free service. However, to use this service you will need to become a member.

To find out more, including how to apply, visit the TFL website or call 0343 222 7777 to become a member.

Blue Badges help people with disabilities or health conditions (including hidden disabilities and learning differences such as autism) park closer to their destination by using designated parking spaces for disabled people.

The Blue Badge Scheme does not fully apply in the City of London.

The City of London also runs its own Red Badge scheme. This allows City of London residents and workers with disabilities to get special allowances when it comes to parking in the Square Mile. To apply to either, you will need to complete an application form at the bottom of the page and send to the Blue Badge mailbox or call 020 7332 1548.

If you need help with filling in forms and accessing the internet, our lending libraries can help.

They offer free access to computers, wifi, scanning and can also offer basic IT skills support to help you fill in forms. No need to call ahead, just pop in.
