The City boasts a dense concentration of over 7,000 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) per square kilometre. It is also the UK local authority with the third-largest number of high-growth SMEs, and this is a testament to its role as a powerful global business centre, despite occupying only 2.9km2.
SMEs are the backbone of the City with over 98% of its business landscape covering a wide range of sectors. This report highlights the key trends, growth sectors and clustering of SMEs in the Square Mile in 2023 and has to helped shape and inform the City of London Corporation's SME strategy.
