EU and regulation

The City of London works closely with practitioners, trade associations and other stakeholders in order to shape the future direction of financial services policy. The Corporation advocates for open markets on both sides of the channel whilst ensuring economic, legislative, fiscal and regulatory developments do not negatively impact the business landscape across the City.

Strategic aims:

  • To help shape the evolution of more effective financial and professional services between the EU and UK - assisting in the development of regulatory coherence to enhance growth and development in financial and professional services on both sides.
  • To promote the interests of the wider City as a key international marketplace – acting as a focal point in Brussels for UK-based international financial and professional services through informal contacts with decision-makers.
  • To act as a channel for regular communication between EU officials, regulators and MEPs as well as the international financial services community on matters of collective interest.

The International Regulatory Strategy Group (IRSG)

Through the work of the IRSG, the City of London Corporation has been working towards a more strategic approach to cross-cutting issues which impact on UK-based financial services providers and users.
