Donate to Burnham Beeches ancient trees

Burnham Beeches is renowned for its woodland ponds, varied habitats and grassland, ancient pollarded trees and coppices.

The ancient trees have lived through centuries of change, World Wars and famous moments in history. Many are over 500 years old and have inspired poets, musicians and artists across the centuries. They are home to countless mosses, lichens and animals that live in and around them, many of which are rare. The plants and wildlife come in all shapes and sizes, including a ferocious but tiny false scorpion, which walks on the trees’ bark searching for even tinier prey.

These trees with their unique shapes and character give joy to thousands of visitors every year who come to marvel at them. However, to try and keep these ancient beech and oak pollards alive and healthy for as long as possible takes careful management. Each of Burnham Beeches ancient trees is individually tagged and has an individual work programme tailored specifically to its needs.

We would like your support to raise £12,000 so that we can increase the number of ancient trees that are cared for.

• Your donations will enable us to:
• Engage expert arborists to carefully cut the ancient trees to stop them becoming top heavy which helps keep the trees and their associated habitats alive
• Bring in specialist equipment, as many of these ancient trees are too fragile to climb but may need work doing to them
• Undertake phased clearance of the younger trees surrounding the old ones, to ensure that the ancient trees have enough light and water

Every donation, whatever its value, is vital to help us maintain more healthy ancient trees at Burnham Beeches for the benefit of its wildlife and fauna and for future generations of visitors to enjoy and admire.

Please note: If monies are raised above the required amount, or in the case that insufficient monies are raised to enable the project to go ahead, the amounts raised would be directed to similar projects within the charity.
