Thank you for Supporting Toad Conservation in Epping Forest

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated to our Common Toad Conservation Project. While we didn’t reach our fundraising goal, the generosity of donors has helped make it possible for us to take important steps forward in protecting Epping Forest’s Amphibian population.

We will put the funds raised towards carrying out an eDNA survey in Epping Forest ponds. This will give us an up-to-date picture of where species like great crested newts are present and provide valuable insight into the wider amphibian populations of the Forest. These findings will help us shape future pond restoration efforts, ensuring we prioritise areas where conservation work will have the greatest impact.

This research will also inform our long-term management strategy for Epping Forest’s ponds, helping us identify the best opportunities—and potential funding sources—for future habitat restoration.

What’s Next?

Epping Forest’s ponds are home to a diverse range of wildlife, from emperor dragonflies to great crested newts, and each plays a crucial role in the wider ecosystem. While we weren’t able to move forward with the planned improvement works this time, this survey will lay the groundwork for effective, evidence-based conservation projects in the future.
