Dog walking in West Ham Park
The park welcomes responsible dog owners, but there are some things you should know before you visit.
Newham's Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) Dog Management Anti-social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act 2014 applies and notices are displayed throughout the park.
Please kindly observe the following dog management orders:
- clean up after your dog and deposit waste in the bins provided
- at the request of park staff, dogs must be put on a lead
- dogs are not allowed within the fenced boundary of the playground, tennis courts, bandstand and wildlife gardens.
- dogs are must be kept on a lead in the Ornamental Gardens
- a maximum six dogs allowed
Controlling your dog and picking up after it makes our green spaces better for everyone to enjoy.
Dangerous dogs
It is a criminal offence to allow any breed of dog to be ‘dangerously out of control’. This is any type of behaviour involving a dog which could injure, or threaten to injure a person. A court could also decide that your dog is out of control if:
- it attacks someone's animal
- the owner of an animal thinks they could be injured if they tried to stop your dog from attacking their animal
Newham will always investigate:
- banned, dangerous or aggressive dogs in council housing or communal areas
- dogs that are being allowed to attack other dogs
- dogs that are being allowed to cause damage to public property (including park benches and trees)
- dogs being allowed to stray
