The Statement of Licensing Principles is undergoing review, as required by Section 249 of the Gambling Act 2005. This policy must be published and consulted on, in line with the requirements of the act; including the code of practice and guidance for local authorities published by the Gambling Commission under section 24 and 25, respectively.

The revised Policy is expected to be adopted and published in January to align with the City of London Corporation’s Destination City Programme and Corporate Plan 2024-2029.

What is the Statement of Licensing Principles?

The Statement of Licensing Principles lays out the City Corporation's approach to the licensing of physical gambling premises (such as betting shops, adult gaming centres, etc). This policy does not effect the issuance of operator licences or remote gambling (by phone or website), which is dealt with by the Gambling Commission.

Our policy includes a Local Area Profile which includes the views of those that respond to our consultation, and uses mapping generated by our Global Information System.
